The Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) is a natural approach to family planning that involves tracking your menstrual cycle to determine the days you are most likely to conceive. The method includes observing and recording various fertility indicators such as basal body temperature, cervical mucus, and cervical position. By consistently monitoring these signs, you can identify your fertile window and use this information to either achieve or avoid pregnancy.
While the basics can be learned quickly, it often takes multiple cycles to receive a comprehensive understanding of the method and rules.
On average, it typically takes about 3 to 12 months for individuals to become proficient in understanding their fertility signals and effectively using the method for family planning or health monitoring.
NO! The Rhythm Method is an outdated method based on the assumption that a woman's cycle is the exact same month to month (which is not the case). The Rhythm Method is only 70-80% effective in preventing pregnancy, while FAM is 99.4-99.6% effective when used properly. (We will discuss these stats in our sessions together!)
YES! Fertility Awareness Methods (FAM) can be adapted for use by individuals who are breastfeeding, have irregular cycles, or are experiencing infertility, although certain considerations need to be kept in mind. At Welsh and Womb, we understand that each individual's situation is unique and requires a tailored approach. - Breastfeeding: While breastfeeding, hormone levels can fluctuate significantly, with careful monitoring of fertility signs such as cervical mucus and basal body temperature, it is still possible to use FAM effectively. I can guide you in making more precise observations to increase the accuracy of FAM during this period. - Irregular Cycles: For those with irregular cycles I offer extensive resources and personalized support to help individuals with irregular cycles successfully use FAM. - Experiencing Infertility: For those experiencing infertility, FAM can be an invaluable tool to identify patterns and potential issues related to fertility. At Welsh and Womb, we provide detailed guidance on how to best use FAM to understand your reproductive health better and assist in your infertility journey.
I offer a range of services, both in-person and virtual, to accommodate your needs.
• Group classes are held online for convenience and flexibility.
• One-on-one sessions can be conducted either online or in-person – whichever you prefer.
• For services that require in-person attendance, this will be clearly specified.
If I could go back in time, I'd tell my 19-year-old self, fresh off hormonal birthing control (HBC), to seek guidance from a fertility awareness educator. Having a supportive expert to break down the rules and methods would have saved me so much time, energy, and frustration.
While I deeply believe that every woman holds the power and knowledge to understand her own body, having a supportive sister or mentor to walk alongside you can make all the difference. Together, we can unlock our inner wisdom and reclaim our reproductive autonomy.
